Jacksons Bay was a whaling station in New Zealand named after Captain Jimmy Jackson, a prominent figure in the whaling industry in the area:
History
Jackson was born in Putney in 1800 and came to New Zealand in 1829. He worked under Captain Jacky Guard at Te Awaiti, and later established his own station in the nearby bay around 1835. The bay was renamed Jacksons Bay in his honor.
Jackson’s station included a permanent dwelling, cultivated land, and a watermill that may have been one of the first water-powered flour mills in New Zealand. Jackson employed around 20 Maori in his whaling business
